Does anyone use the 7000 in paylakes and if so what kind of rod would be best. I think the reel with such a big handle if a little big for the em-cast 11ft. Need some feedback on this quick fixxing to puchuse one thursday should I go with a 7000 or a 6500 pro rocket.

I USED 2 7000 FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS JUST REPLACED THEM WITH 2 RECORDS. I LOVED THOSE 7000'S BUT I THINK THAT THEY ARE A LITTLE TO MUCH FOR PAYLAKE FISHING. SURE CAN'T MISS THAT CLICKER IT'S LOUD. DON'T GET ME WRONG THOUGH THEY ARE GREAT REELS IT'S YOUR CHOOSE.

I mean the handle on the reel, there so big it makes the rod try to turn in your hand maybe I could switch the handle out or just settle for a thicker rod. I love that sound cliccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!! Swoosh!!!

My two main reels I use are both 7000's. I think almost any ten foot rod and up should do well. I have had my 7000's on several different rods at ten foot and they performed wonderfully. It's all in one's preference I guess. Oh and yeah the clicker is nice and loud!

imo i think the 7000's are a little big for paylakes. it is big but the fish are two.. ;D i think a 6500 looks to small on a 10'or bigger rod... hill even the 7000 looks small on a 12' rod.. i could do salt water or any big water with a 7000.. only bad thing is they don't cast as ez as a 6500... i can only get 200'and with my 6500 i can cast 220'so it cast ok in my book...... .with a 2oz wt and float... well may be i don't cast that good..maybe you could do better. with eather one of these reels.but i think you would only be 10% shorter on a cast with a 7000.. is a 200' cast to long for a pay lake??

i went to a park. ;D gee it don't cast much better..180'with a float and 1.5oz wt... 9 cast with no back lash at all....on the 7000ics the 7000b with the 2 ball bearings in them cast 178'with the same rod, float and 1.5oz wt..but i got a back lash 1 out of 9 cast.. THE 7000ics says PRO ROCKET on the side.....$100 the 7000b with $10 ball bearings.............$85 so it is $15 for just 2 more feet cast and no back lash....
