when using yellow bellies i was told to cut off the little barbs. does anyone else do this. the reason being is that the catfish will not take it if it feels the barbs. is there any truth to this????how do you guys use them???

I cut the spines off on mine when I use them, but some people don't. In my experience I think they hold onto the bellie longer when their are no spines, but my friend doesn't cut them off and he never has a problem.
I just hook them in the back and throw them out after cutting the spines off....sometimes I trim part of the tail off too like Chris does.

For me, it depends on the size, small ones I normally don't, but the bigger ones I normally do...

Leaves a little blood trail also, cut just enough to make it bleed slightly!

Cutting the barbs off only makes sense if you are hooking them thru the mouth, 90% of the time a Shovel will hit the Yellow Belly head on so it don't get caught or "Barbed" on the way down...
