Would an ulgystik work, with open face reel, and I will need a stronger line though. Something to get Shovels and Blues at Springwater and maybe a try at hickory grove. I tried a friends set up last year but I don't think she had a heavy line on it because the nice sized fish I had on it snapped my line. Just not sure on what to get for a reel. Not trying to sound stupid or ignorant just new to the game.

To start out with I'm not going to go for the really bigs ones like 50-60 plus size because I think I would get pulled into the lake. Im not that tall and small statured. No Josh I have never thrown a baitcaster before, the only reels I've played with before is closed. Eventually I would like to play with the big boys, but for now would like to sit back and relax while the fish bite. Its my way of dealing with stress. Cant wait til spring gets here, hate winter and being stuck inside. you can catch alot of fish in the winter,if you can stand the cold.................

Thank you for the info Josh, I've looked at a few not at walmart but at Kmart. They have a few uglystik one that is 6' and one that is 7'. They also have one that is called a Black Beauty, 7' in length, spinning reel on it and has test line up to 25 lbs on it, seemed pretty sturdy. Don't think I will be doing any winter fishing because I don't like cold weather. Not one for standing outside freezing my butt of while my coffee freezes in the thermos. I would rather go skiing or snowboarding.
