well i have been throwing around the idea of a bait pond. its rained a little and the ground is soft here in washington court house. so i decided i would start digging it. my neighbor and paylake buddy helped me. it is abou 4 foot long and 3 foot wide and it starts at 1 and a half feet deep and then it drops off to about 3 feet. i made it to what i have heard about koi ponds, even the one we already had isnt as nice as this one. i havent put the liner in yet, but im gonna let the rain settle the dirt in and then dig the rest of the loose dirt out and then fill it with the required sand for underneath the liner and then add the liner and then let the rain fill the pond up, then put the pump in about 2 weeks before we start catching bait.( which should be about a month or even less ) gonna put in some real plants to give the gills and yellowbellies oxygen and shelter.

That's not a bad idea , even though i haven't done any research on this topic, but it sounds a little small for holding enough bait to reproduce every year and still have good sized bait swimming in it. Sounds like you're planning on having a holding puddle for short term holding? Wish I had one so I didn't have to hear my wife nag about my bait swimming in a big cooler in my house. Good luck with this.
