One day my uncle was wanting me to find a tree stump under the water. So i figured that the easiest way to find it was to bring my bass fishing setup with a jig on it. After a couple of cast i got a huge hit and of course my instinct set in so i set the hook. After a good 15 minutes i got it in. It was a 42# shovlehead. My uncle couldn't believe what happened.

I have a similar story..well my uncle has like a 4acre pond and the pond is 20years old or so and there are Flatheads and blue in there and he wanted them out because they are eating the bluegill and perch and all the other fish..well i had this frog top water bait for bass and a flattie hit it...it was a pretty cool sight seeing the flathead come out of he water...it was really shallow to by the bank so he must have been hunting.

An ol' friend use to use an ultralight with a white roostertail tipped with a teeny minnow early in the season when it was cold. Every time he grunted he drug in a 15-20 pounder. Never got this to work for me though. He also use to troll shad sprayed with WD40. Shovels would chase that mess 1/2way across the lake and then hammer it.

Yeah well the wd-40 trick is illegal to do. You should not put chemicals like that into a lake.

NO i mean it is illegal to us just because the lake wont put up with it they dont care if you use Bass. I know if i see someone using it ill say something to them. That is just ridicules to use. It pollutes the Lake and my kill the fish.

i agree w d 40 cant be good for the lake or the fish. but in a pay lake most shovels and blues won't last any longer than a few months anyway thats why they have to keep stocking 3 or 4 times a year paylakes arn't rivers the cats just won't live long in them no matter what the lake owners do.

About three years ago, I was fishing my parents' pond in early spring. Using an 1/8 ounce jig on an ultralight (4'6'' rod and 4lb test), I hooked into a fish that felt like a world record crappie, big bass, or something else...
After a long struggle, I got the fish to the bank where my friend promptly netted the it. The fish was a blue catfish the I approximate was ten pounds. After investigating the jig, the fish had bent the hook nearly straight. Any more time fighting, and I would have lost it.
