Well with my experience bigger is not always better. It seems like the bigger the bait the smaller the fish, and I'm not saying not to use big bait , it could pay off. I have had some luck on big Israelis and big gold fish, and shad. But when it come to Bass, Crappie, War Mouths, and Hardbacks/Bluegills i try to keep it smaller than the size of my hand. When i do go big i trim the tails of the bait to keep them where i want them.
Tell me your experiences with big bait.

Bigger bait does equal bigger fish in my oppinion....the bigger the bait in the water the more movement for one which will attract the bigger fish, and the smaller fish shouldn't be able to swallow bigger live bait.

i usualy catch more small fish off big bait sometimes i dont even know how they got the bait in thier mouths because the bait was so big and these little fish kept hitting huge bait. preferably i like using smaller bait. the smaller the better for be. i like taking little tiny bluegill heads about as small as the end of my pinky and the big fish tear them up. i dont know why but when i will take a big bluegill head throw it out i catch a fish that isnt much bigger than the bluegill head lol. but when i take a tiny head i seem to catch more and bigger fish. the only time i like using big bait is right before the fish go on the nest or right before winter time. it seems the fish like eating more and stocking up on food for the winter.

i am talking about live bait tho i guess different bait works for different people. even when i use big live bait i still seem to catch small fish. i dunno why thats just my luck my cusin and i went to cozy a few times with the biggest chubs we could find im talking like 8-9 inch suckers and everyone we pulled in was under 10lbs! i was thinking this cant be right. i caught some 30+lbers off big skipjack heads buts thats the only big bait i ever caught any big fish from.

Tell me your experiences with big bait. it really all depends on where you are fishing. you have to take into consideration. those fish have a smorgus board beneath the surface, of that water. ive used small baits and and i have used larger baits. if im not gettng any type of luck ill try a bigger or smaller bait in the hole im fishing. i have done this a few times with good progress. so honstly i beleive the size of bait does matter at times. hope this helps some. the fish are there you just have to give them what they want

I've always found out whenever I'd get some bigger bait i'd never do anygood with it and it would just be a waste. Or I would end up catching a dink on it which would drive me nuts. More often then not I would go through all of my bigger bait not do any good then at the end of my day I would just have the smaller bait left then I would at least catch a few 20's on them and it would drive me even more nuts. It's almost like a can't ever win with bait

My largest fish was on a 2"-3" live warmouth, in my experience smaller bait works great for big fish. Never pulled in anything big with large bait that I can remember anyway.

I do not think that big bait = big fish. I fish at folz, cozy dale, hickory, and julie ann and i have always had my luck with small bait. The smaller the bait, the easyer it is for the fish to get in its mouth. That also could give you a better hook set.
