I keep my shad in a 3 gallon cool bubbles bucket with shad-alive added to the water. I can keep about 2 dozen descent sized shad or 4 dozen small ones alive for about 24 hours using a battery operated pump that takes 2 d size batteries. To keep amonia levels down, try using amolock. Never had much luck keeping them alive longer than that.

im swiching air pumps this year i bought two of the power bubbles with dual air stones at bass pro they are alittle expensive $39.99 each. im swiching because i run my pumps off my cig lighter the pumps i used the last couple of years drawed like 1 to 2 amps so with two tanks in my truck round barrle for shad and a cooler for the rest of my bait, if i'd forget to start the truck every 4 hours or so they would run my battery down after about 10 to 12 hours of running. my buddy used these power bubbles last year they only draw 1/4 amp he only has one tank but he would leave bait in it for two days at a time without starting his truck then go out and his truck would still start right up. so thats the route im going this thought this might help guys that run pumps on cig lighter,

I bought from ebay a sealed 12v battery and a solar battery charger to charge it with and leave the car battery out of the loop.
Cost for both was less than $50.

Screw-on stainless steel wire mesh strainer keeps out trash or fish scales which clog drains in baitwells or pump impellers in aeration systems. Works with thru-hull type or in livewell or baitwell drains. Formed stainless steel wire mesh cloth and molded PVC base with internal threads. Black base with 3/4" female pipe threads. ust seen these on Castaways website.Thats the ticket to keeping the pump from clogging

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a 750gph Aerator pump ($19.87), 2 alligator clips ($.97) and some flex tubing (don't remember how much that was). I got an old 150 qt cooler and pulled the drain plug out of it. The aerator pump fits perfectly in the stock drain plug hole. I only had to drill one hole to run the flex tubing through. I then used a soldering iron to burn holes in the tubing to spray the water back into the cooler. The stock drain plug fit perfectly into the end of the flex tube to cap it off. I then used stainless screws to hold the tubing in place i like that set up........vn
