I used to fish at Fernbank Park on River Rd years ago... don't know if it's still a good spot or not.

I've been having some good luck on the covington side of the Licking River. Several massive Blue cats and during the morning hours some nice striper. I've been trying to plan a trip down to the banks with a large group and do an all nighter but i was worried about crime and to help prevent it I wanted to A.) get as many friends as I can. b.) build a fire so we can see. So I contacted the Kentucky DNR and the Convington Police department about building fires on the bank, they told me "They have no problems with building fires on the bank as long as no conplaints from the homes get reported" and they said if a report did come in all they would ask for you to put the fire out. Figured i'd throw all that so you can feel safe about building a fire on the bank. Now i don't know about the Newport side of the river I never contacted the police department.

Hey George, I have fished this spot since I was kid, the biggest I have pulled out of thre is a 26 pound shovel. I have never seen any blues over 15 pounds. For the most part all I can get to hit is small shovels and a lot of gar runs. Where are you fishing on the bank. I like to walk right down the steps and throw staight out as far as I can get it.

I've been fishing on both sides of the licking, really just depends on how i feel or how many people on the convington side. I've been pretty much fishing the same as you chris. I walk down the steps and I cast cross the licking, are you casting into the ohio? I've been warned by the Kentucky DNR about fishing up the Licking since i have an ohio licence. But they havn't ticketed me or took my gear. Mainly i've been using white shrimp, strawberry chicken, night crawlers. What are you using?

I throw out into the Ohio, and use Shad, ,or live blue gill. I will try the Licking next time. I have always thrown out in the Ohio. I only bad thing is that my line gets all nicked up from the rocks and i have to respool my reels. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

You are 100% on about the gold fish part. BUT 50% wrong about the bluegill. You are able to use bluegill for bait if you catch them out of the same body of water that you are catfishing at.
