any body who goes down there joe carnley the cheap hooker guide was great no big fish but he let us pick his brain. in our future trips were not taking guides any more the first two years we manly did it to get info and learn the lakes. we have drifting down now and joe told us everything we asked about he was also reel good on telling us where all the danger spots where like the rocks and stomps. we still havent been able to get out into the main lake of lake marion in two years if there is any wind 5-10 its too dangerous since it has trees and stomps every where we did fish the back water of lake marion alot we fished some where the main lake met the back water and that was 8 miles out. you have to keep an eye on the wind on both lakes we where all over the bottom lake moutrie but in both lakes when you are 8 to 15 miles out from tha canal if the wind starts picking up you better start heading back. there was 4 people missing while we where down.both main lakes are very dangerous when the winds get 15-20 you have 4 foot waves it was like being in the ocean there was a few times we where puckered up coming back in when it started getting rough and that was in a 21ft sea ark most of the guys down there use 25 to 30 foot pontoons. thats why we are going back in feb they said during the winter months the wind is only about 5-10.it was a great trip love gonig down there the cost was about $600 a piece for three guys for seven days almost $200 apiece for gas that was are biggest expense.
