i have been fishing pay lakes for years now and have never found a sure fire way to keep whole baits (live gills or shad) from come off the hook on long casts at times , Any advise ??
I use 11ft okuma ploles and ambasadur 6500c reals with 20lb big game , 5/0 gammakatsu hooks
thanks

when im useing shad i run the hook right through the upper lip out the nose area, that works good for me in makeing long cast's, when useing gills if i am makeing real long cast i hook the through the upper lip and come out one of the eyes, they dont die as easy that way like just running the hook through one eye and out the other. hope this kinda helps a little bit.

when you go through the eyes just dont hit there brain or they will die instantly.you will learn were to hook them after you hit the brain a couple of times
