Do you think cat fish would go for a HYBRID BLUEGILL (Lepomis macrochirus) vrs what other kinds are out there? I have a pnd at my farm with HYBRID BLUEGILL (Lepomis macrochirus) and an 2nd pond with regular blue gill. Whats your thoguths.

I have hybrid bluegill in my pond and yes they will work but not as good its hard to get small ones and mine are about a lb or bigger they look like they would be good to eat but they are all bone you cant get as much meat of a big hybrid as you can a small reg but i have used them.

i have 500+ that are only 2-4 in long at this time. im thinking of using them for bate this week end lol.

USE THEM WHOLE AND THERE HEADS THEY ARE GREAT BAIT....

as of right now i have 25 red ear sunfish 25 bluegill 25 goldfish all 2-4 in 6lbs of strawberry chicken 2 med/lrg skipjack gona get some worms and leaches. Picked up 5 12 packs of dr pepper Come on up to fatcats. im going thursday night to sunday night.

i've used hybrids b4 and seen no difference to me, but you'll also catch crossbreeds of sunfish in bodies of water, don't know if you would consider them "hybrids"also

Hey all...I know some people have been asking about the legality of using bluegill (or other game fish) as bait. Here's what I just got from the ODNR:
"Bluegill may be used as a bait fish. However, since bluegills are considered a game species, they need to be caught by legal methods before being used as bait. Bluegill may only be taken by angling. The use of cast nets or seine nets is prohibited."
I hope this clears up any questions about using bluegills for bait.
