Anyone ever tried the public access there in front of the university? Saw it while driving by while workin yesterday, saw a few people out there, just wondering if antone has tried the spot yet. My daughter wants to fish the river but wont get in a boat and it's pretty easy access here.

i know a few guys who got a couple 35+ blues early this spring, as well as a few 30+ shovels before the spawn. Haven't heard anything else since except its a good place to get shad and skipjack for bait

I would be interested on info as well, nothing like finding new holes to fish. You would think if there is bait fish there would be some cats as well

This thread kind of touches my heart, because I use to fish that dam 3-4 times a week. I could write a book on that spot from either side of the river. This is probably the best place I have ever fished in a river. It's actually better from the other side, but you get idiots on the river just like you get anywhere else, and they shut the other side down. You can actually walk across the river. I've never seen a blue taken there, but I've seen everything else.

I always go there and fish about 7 or 8 foot from the dam with big chubs like 8 to 10 inches long and the biggest fish i've cought there was a 43lb shovelhead and I catch shovels in the 20s and 30s all the time. But I have never got a blue there yet

I live like 2 mins from there i always go there for shad. Flathead108 that is the best spot to fish that is where I always have my luck only problem there is all the snags. Its a great spot to fish there are some hawgs in there Ive seen 80's pulled out of there biggest Ive caught is a 40 but the turtles like the shad to. Be careful with your cast net though alot of people lose them in there, there is alot of boulders in there. but its shallow so just go in for it thats what I do. Just fish on the bottom straight out about 30 feet with a nice whole shad and about a 3oz sinker youll be golden. Let me know next time you wanna go in the mornin I work 2nd shift so I can fish till about 2pm. I need a new fishin buddy my wife hates river fishin she likes "BOBBER FISHING"
