I have never been channel fishing, I have caught a few while fishing but never been strictly trying to fish for channel, are most of you that are channel fishing trying to catch dinner or just doing it for the fun? I love to eat catfish, I am assuming it's channel, like at cracker barrel or other restuarants and have seen people clean em but never did it myself, this sounds like something I could get into, I like to buy it fresh from kroger and season it and throw it on the grill but it seems it would be even better to catch my own

both fun & dinner.....channels on a lite wgt rod is a lot of fun....great also to take kids....deep fry mine......the lakes that stock farm raised channels is the same fish you are buying at Kroger......much more fun to catch them yourself........I have caught some "wild" channels at a few pay lakes and they did not have a strong "bottom of the lake" taste.......just filet them and cut out the "middle vein"......filet them and put in a freezer bag with water....will keep them freash.....enjoy.

I catch them for fun and I eat them. When my great grandma was alive she loved catfish. She group up in Missouri and Kansas and all they did was fish for catfish. So when she moved up here and lived with us, I would always catch channels and fry them up in old fashioned corn meal for her and she loved them!
