I've been looking at castaway's website, and seen they offered reel upgrades. I was just wondering if anyone had bought anything off of them and if it was worth it?
I have a couple RCN60HC's, and I love them. Best reel for the money IMHO, I like them alot more than rockets. I hate the power handles that came factory so I replaced them with RCN60 paddles. But I didn't know if there is any upgrade that is like a "must have" for records.
Also, would a CT conversion benefit me at all? You wouldn't have to worry about wearing parts on the levelwind but I'm unsure on how well the line will sit on the spool. I've never used a CT reel before, and don't see too many at paylakes.

Squirrer, I also have the RCN60HC and have bought a pro rocket with bearing upgrades from castaway...I'm not putting down the rocket, but I think the RCN is smoother and casts better. Plus requires no upgraes...I also sitched out the handle.

Upgrades to a levelwind will not make it cast alot farther. It is smoother and has alot better drag system. For catfishing maybe a drag upgrade is all that is required. If you want a levelwind reel to cast like the pros use then you need a $300.00 or better garcia reel with mags and the works. We build alot of CT reel upgrades to use for surf fishing and competition casting which cast around 500 to 800 feet. Bill's Reel Shop in SC does alot of my machine work for the mags and other stuff which is design. Look up Tommy Farmer and you will see some real nice custom reels. The bottom line if for catfishing/paylaking only a drag upgrade is required and maybe some ceramic bearings that last longer and gives you a very smooth drag with more drag pressure. Some of the other upgrades will not do any good unless you have CT reel or use a $100.00 mag kit on your reel. The record reel is a nice reel right out of the box. Hey thanks for the help man. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know if I can powder coat the side plates? I want to do like a flat black. Didn't know if the metal would hold up well at 400 degrees.
