Gamakatsu, and owner hooks are neither one stainless. They are blued steel. Both companies make a nickel version which would be "illegal" at most lakes.
As far as your comment about most fish not making it, that is Ridiculous. If the only fish that were caught were fish just stocked , then no one would catch anything. With the number of fish stocked by the pay lakes. Their would not be enough to catch unless there were already tons of fish in the lakes. But it would seem you have an I don't give a f__k about the fish attitude any way.

and what does everybody use at paylakes? whats for sale on almost every paylake shelf ? NICKEL OCTOPUS HOOKS, and if they were just blued steel then we would be bending them out straight like crazy all day long, and about the fish then why does all the paylakes every year "reload" their lakes with heavy stockings every year? because they have to hire people to go around the lakes every morning and net out dead fish , if a couple of fish die even just every few days , those add up pretty quick

yeah gamakatsu, owner and all the other brands of octopus hooks that everyone uses and sells at lakes are not just blued steel blued steel fades and you can start to see a brown color under it after a while and they bend like crazy... the hooks you are using are the actually HIGH CARBON STEEL and cooled in oil... and neither company makes an actual hook made of nickel.. they do have a nickel colored hook tho.

THANK YOU STEVE! that's why they're "OCTOPUS" hooks, they're for use in saltwater , which means they're "rust resistant" , which also means that if they were "blued steel" they would literally rust completely through, ever left a gun wet that was "blued steel" that bad boy rusts in like 1/2 an hour

I use Gamakatsu hooks on everything. From my poles to my trot lines to my ocean poles. However, although I use them in saltwater, they are not a stainless hook. They are a blued, high carbon steel hook. The oil they are cooled in contains a bluing agent for the hook finish. The nickel hooks are nickel plated, and I do not use, or allow the use of these.
And contrary to popular belief, hooks do not rust out of fish, no matter what they are made of. The barbs rust off and allow the fish to either regurgitate them or to pass them. Gamakatsu hooks have a very small barb which rusts much quicker than most hooks. And after salt water use must be replaced because the barb rust off right on the pole while in storage.
