i cought 2 baby channels about finger size today while fishing for yellowbellys..are they good bait?how should i hook them?also should i clip them like yellowbellys

my buddy got one with his crappie minnows last time we went out, it was the same size as a minnow. got it from blackies or fishing pole bait shop what ever you wanna call it.
