They are like a calvalier to a vette. Spend the extra if you can and you will have a reel for life!

I have a Catmaxx, and 2 Abu's. By far, the Abu's are better, but I use the Catmaxx for channels. It has reeled in some decent shovels, but if you look hard enough, you can get a used Abu for around $30.

Abu's are the better reels, But for 50 dollars the cat maxx cant be beat. I have had mine for several years and never had a problem. They have never been repaired or cleaned and they are still solid reels after 7 years. Pleanty of big fish caught on them. My boys use them now, and I have upgraded to all abu equipment.

they are really a good reel, just like any other reel gotta keep them cleaned and whatnot, i see people useing them all th e time and they talk good about them. i watch a guy at CP. catch a 59lb shovel on one and had not a problem sith it at all, said he had that reel for 4 yrs. and this was last yr. so for the money if you are not wanting to spend like 8--100 bucks go for it, just keep it cleaned and you shouldnt have any prob. with it..

the way i see it if something happens to my catmaxx then i will buy an Abu but until then i will continue to use it and only hope to catch a cat big enough to ruin my catmaxx. If you are looking for an Abu 6500c3 walmart has them for 80 bucks plus tax but for the fisherman on a budget catmaxx aint bad.

The Catmaxx reels are decent. The only thing I have ever done with mine is take the plates off and add rocket fuel now and then. Mine have held up to a 56lb Shovelhead with no problem. And better yet I got mine on sale and 60% employee discount so Best $28 reel I have ever Bought. BTW the reels are made by Phleuger I believe.
