When i was younger i would always use chicken livers that were marinated in brown sugar. Seem to work very well.

I used to use a lot of liver for channels, but the stuff is just so hard to keep hooked. I switched to dip baits, stuff works great for me.

I have not done well with dip baits. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx.

I never had any luck with catalpa worms. I've bought 'em 3 times and not had one hit on them.
I like using livers but like already said it's a pain in the butt to keep on a hook. I use old panty hose. Tie one end shut, put the liver in and tie the other end shut. Once you run the hook the hose a couple times, it's almost impossible to get it to come loose.
I do best with fresh caught nightcrawlers outta the back yard. I've also done fairly well with shrimp and frozen shad.
