Have any of you guys fish with stink baits? Like pieces of skip jack/ shad that are a couple of days old or that one salt water fish, can't remember the name.

two popular saltwater baits are bonita and mackerel as cut bait since they are oily fish. leave skin on, but both of these fish become soft in warm weather and seperate from the skin and fly off the hook easily. not sure if the hasel is worth it over other cut bait.

A tip someone told me was to thaw frozen mackerel slightly or slightly freeze fresh mackerel, cut the size of chunks that you want (skin on), then totally freeze all the chunks......then only thaw out the amount you need for each day's fishing. May be worth a try.

My favorite stink bait to use us cut shad. It is easy to get and it works really good. I never had any luck with the frozen shad. The best way to use it is to catch it on the same day you are going fishing.
