Just curious to see how people get there shad to the lake after they get them. We always lay them on top of ice in a cooler. Seems to work pretty good. I have only used live shad once and i did not notice a big difference from the previous method. I am thinking of trying to haul them in a bucket with an aerator the way i haul the rest of my bait. I heard this can work if they are hauled by themselves and the water is cool and clean. Any thoughts?
Also How do you fish shad? I usualy fish a head and sometimes i will fillet them. I know allot of people use shad pieces. Any body do this? What pieces do you use? I like to tip the shad with leaches, anybody else do this? Just curious as to other peoples methods of fishing shad. Peace Elijah

I keep them alive i a big oval tub iv got. can keep about 30 of them a live for about 24 hours before they get stressed out and die.
I use them alive. Make sure they don't touch the bottom or else they will die real quick, because their gill will fill up with dirt. After they die i will cut them right behind the stomach at a 45 degree angle. If they are small then i will put more than one on the hook. If i am going to troll with them i will use only the head and add a leech to it.

When you say "not touch the bottom" do you mean that you do not let them touch the ground? I heard to place them directy from the net into the bait bucket, if you rouch them they die. Do you use a bubller or a pump to aerate the water?
Yeah, shad head an leaches are my favorite bait! Elijah

I mean when you are fishing with them. If the drag the bottom once they are dead.
I use a bubbler.

you can only catch them with a cast net. They do not hit any type of bait.
