Just wondering if any else trims the tail fin of a big piece of bait to keep it from swimming around to much. I do this to largemouth, huge bluegill and shad and it helps a lot. It may stress the fish out a little and may not live as long, but if you want say a 12" shad to stay in your hole it is worth it.

yes i do this alot as well , sometimes i just lop the tail off big gills entirely , they still flop around alot plus they bleed a ton , ive hit some good fish that way , i trim the tail on even the small izzies , if i dont theyll swim out of my hole every time
