I use an arearator like the one you mentioned. It is best to use a round tank when keeping shad alive. I also rigged a filter to the intake at the bottom of the aerator to keep the water cleaner. I pack the filter with charcoal paper to keep the water cleaner. I bought a big cooler from Wal-Mart that is cube shaped. I put plastic inserts in the corners to round the tank. I can keep 20-30 6 inch gizzard shad alive for a couple of days as long as it is not too hot. Shad are a pain in the butt to keep alive but once you start using them you won't want to use anything else. I also use shad keeper, something to take the chlorine out and foam away to keep the foam in the tank down. I also keep plenty of ice to keep the water cool but remember if the ice was made with chlorinated water it will also kill your shad in a matter of minutes. The whole setup I use probably cost me around $50 and has been well worth the money. You can get real fancy with tanks and end up spending 300-400 dollars in a hurry but this set up is fairly simple and will even fit in the trunk of a car. Sorry about the length of the post but I have learned a lot of things the hard way with regards to keeping shad alive. It's pretty depressing to catch the perfect bunch of shad and in 30 minutes have them all floating belly up.

The Power Bubbles for my big bait tank is not a good aerator. If you get this thing wet the wires inside will corrode and will not work. For a $40 pump it shouldn't do that.
