When tying my floats I always leave a little extra line off the leader side, that way if I don't have the right amount of wait I can always add a small egg sinker and hold it on with a split shot. This way I am able to adjust my float to how I like it to set in the water. Myself, I am a low rider, just maybe a 1/4 inch of my float showing. I hope this helps.

I am experimenting with non-weighted floats, I can cast really far with little effort and it helps me get big bait out farther. I have (1) 1 1/2oz and (1) 1 oz egg sinker on a 12" little Joe non-weighted. I really don't like to use (2) egg sinker as they tend to get tangled sometimes on the cast, thats why I'm looking for a 2 1/2 oz egg sinker.
So far I really like it.
Thanks for the help

Hey Randy, give the 8" thill bobbers a try. You can put up to 3 oz if needed. I just started using them this year and have had very few tangles.

I have used the thill's before and the problem with them is that the bottom of the float eventually will split and start pinching the line.........that could cause a problem real fast........" SNAP "
