If you have big bait its not going to stay in one place. It just helps when it is windy, and nine times out of ten it is going to be a little windy at a lake.
The thing i like most about using just a float is when you are trolling and you get a hit, the float just shoots down so fast, with a straw when you get a hit the straw stays in sight.

I use to use float only, but last two years using a straw and don't think i could ever go back to not having a straw on my line.
I love trolling also, but I get more of a rush when a hit takes both done your brain says it most be a big one to take both down, but as we know as we reel it in its normally just a dink..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

your straw doesn't stay in sight if you put your stoper behind it then it will all go down

Not when your trolling. Sometimes they will just hold it, and not run with it. I am always about a foot or less off the bottom so when they hit it they wont be able to pull it all down with a straw.

i use catman floats with no straw, your bait moves better, it sinks faster and easier to cast in my opionion

i dont use a straw to often unless i have big bait but other wise i just use a bobber sitting real low so as soon as i get a bite its gone and also i hate when people count to ten before they jerk they say the fish has to swallow it or they wont get it WRONG even with big bait as soon as it goes i swing that fish has big mouth beleave me they got it

I wait on big bait. I don't care if they swallow it at least i know they have it.

yea if im usin small bait i usuallt count to to 3, but if im usin big bait i usually wait about 6-8 seconds but thats if i see my floater go under most of the time i get all my bites wen im re-baitin my other poles or riggin another pole up lol seems like only wen im not payin attention i always get a run...
