It seems that the shovels have been on the nest for the past week or so. I fished a few hours saturday night and only got 2 shovels and 2 blues. The shovels had bloody mouths and tails, but the blues looked great. The past month I have been averaging about 10 shovels a night. Hopefully they finish spawning soon because I have vacation time coming up.
How are the shovels biting at other lakes?

Seems that the shovels are hitting a lot more than the blues right now at EZ.

You got to keep in mind that all the fish don't span at the same time some will wait till the others are finished then move in and do their thing.

Guys I hate to inform you...Shovels and blues do not go on the nest, or spawn in paylakes...None, zilch....These fish spawn in there natural water only, before they were netted and stuck in your mud holes..Kinda like trapping a deer and turning it lose in a pen and shooting it..I am a river fisherman for the last 30 years..Paylaking, is not fishing, it's paylaking...All big shovels and blues are netted from public water...Agin, they do not spawn in paylakes, the lakes dont have the habitat for spawning, PERIOD...If they did spawn in paylakes there wouldf be no need to keep stocking them every year now would there?

ok one thing if they dont spawn in paylakes then why do you see little small catfish in schools swimming all over in the lake in the fall after the eggs hatch.. the reason being that they dont make it is the fish that are in the lake already eats them that why yellowbellies are good bait. This guy (person) has know idea what he is talking about..
