You guys use some long rods i keep mine under 8ft because i fish the river more then paylakes(more of a challange)..i just made some enemies saying that lol....but my to main rods are 7ft ugly stiks with abu 6500c3.....and i have one paylake rod it is a 10' whippin stik with an abu 6500c3...i know longer rod will get you a better hook set but i don't see no need for a 12ft rod..just my opinion

actually you get a longer cast, in those bigger lakes. but there is nothing wrong with river fishing. didnt make an enemy here. you will come around. and before you know you will forget what a river is lol.

Well i have two Catmaxx rods. One is a 10ft and the other is an 11ft. In the late fall i picked up an 11 ft Diawa Sealine surf rod, which i haven't used yet. I also fish with the Abu Garcia 6500c3 series reel. They are great and will last a long time if you take care of them. On my setups i spool them with either Bass Pros Excel Line or Cabela's Pro line in 30# test. I'm experimenting with both hooks and bobbers but i kind like Billy Boy Bobbers and Bass pros Baitholder hooks. I don't use straws.

I am just saying you may get a better hook set but paylakes no need to cast 2 miles you can only fish half away out anyways which is possible with an 8ft rod IMO...i will never forget what i river is lol i am there everynight just about it just sucks when it is high..then paylakes here i come..dont get me wrong i like paylakes..i just dont like that guy that is on the other side of the lake from you that thinks he has to cast all the way to your side and the reel in about 50ft of line really quick, to get where he wants

My to main rods are 7ft ugly sticks with abu 6500c3. I have 3 of them. They are great poles. Just a question. Are the 6600c4 abu good reels.

Yeah they are good reals but not for cat fishing. The reason for that is the gear ratio is to high for it, they will tear up faster than the c3's. The c3 has 5.3:1 gear ratio and the c4 has 6.3:1 gear ratio.

The c3 has 5.3:1 gear ratio and the c4 has 6.3:1 gear ratio. This makes no sense to me. When fighting a fish, you fight the fish with the rod and drag, not by reeling . The reel just reels in slack line when you are fighting the fish with the rod. The advantage of C4s is that they cast better and because they have a higher gear ratio, you can get your bait in and out of the water faster. I use them and have never had a problem. Excellent catfishing reels.

The first real i had was a c4 and after the first year the worm drive and the little brass pin that works the line guide in the front of the reel had to be replaced. The is really the only thing that messes up on them but I'm sure it will happen a lot.

All you need is a sharp hook and a good sense of what the heck you are doing ! Who cares what equipment you have. I saw my son's friend reel in a 27lbs shovel on a zebco set-up. Not a catfish pole by any means. But hey , to each his own. All I know is my equipment is defective................Can't seem to hook any big fish !! Or is it user error -----OK don't answer that !!! lol
