thx 4 the reply is the tattle tail the float with a straw in it ??is it worth using? if so i didn't like it was too long so i did cut 1 down to 10"with a 10"float,wt, swivel and 10"line to weedless hook..beed pc.beed pc all the way.looks a lot better to me now only 31" long..not 4 or more feet of trash on my line i am not trying to be funny this time..i am only using 1pc 7 foot party boat rods, heavy action from bass shop with nice heavy eyelets.they are power plus rods looks like a fast tapper tip.. no info on rod only says 1041 7' boat rod 30-50lbs 7g o7a looked at bass shop online 4 more info could not find them...

The point of a tattle tale is to keep your line from sinking down and your live bait from swimming through it and getting it tangled. I cut them down to about 6-10 inches, i see no point in having them a mile long. I use tattle tale's on one pole only. This is because i like to troll shad and leaches or whatever on the other pole and there is no point in a tatle tale if you are not using live active bait.
Those poles will be fine but i would maybe invest in some decent 10' rods. A longer rod will allow you to fight the fish better and use lighter line. Don't get me wrong i like a good fight, but if you are battleing a fish with short rods it places allot of stress on the fish, which is not good for it. Some people say that longer rods allow for better hooksets, but i am not sure if that is true. Peace Elijah

I believe the straw is used to let you know if your tangled after a cast. If your tangled after a cast and settled in your straw WILL NOT jump up to the top of the float. As far as the straw working to keep your live bait from getting tangled with your line that has sunk,...........well, after your float drifts a bit your live bait will catch up to the line that has sunk..............so in a nut shell I think they are used to tell you if your tangled after a cast, thats why they call them " Taddel Tails "
Just my opinion

I use 14 pound line for my stopers.. i tie a bunch of tight knots till it builds up enough... it works really good. if you get if tight enough you wont have a problem with it slippin and it stays tight for a long time.. give that a try...

Here are the ones I use, they sometimes start to slip after awhile...........time to change it.

I use the same thing randy does, But I put two or three on my line, that stops it from slipping.
