i just wandered if anyone has broken/seen broken any emcast rods? everyone down here is breaking rods on the hookset or sometimes in the middle of the fight. we just sent the 8th one back to daiwa this year, and had two more broken this week. one was just while casting. all of them have been 11 footers. let me know if anyone else is having this problem, we are looking to carry a different brand if these keep breaking, any ideas on a new brand would be appreciated also

just bought 2 emcast 11' about 6 weeks ago. so far all is ok. the rods handled a 46# blue just fine. but if my rods break or I hear it I'll post here for your fyi. I don't do "real hard hooksets" so that could be a difference - thoes gama circle hooks are so darn sharp, i just real in the slack and then give it a "stern" pull. just my style.

i would recomend st. croix .......... well for maybe a huge lake... But if you want a flexible rod that you done have to cast big bait too far preditors are nice..... I had some king cat rods last year that were cheap... I guess it depends how much you wanna spend....

the rod breaking is not the rods fault its the user... Their not made to swung like everybody does hook sets... It puts the rods backbone in a bind thats why they break... And esp if you have your hand above the handle on the rod itself... I do hooksets like everybody else so if my rods break its my fault...

i dont hookset like that , i used too , but i used these Diachi hooks now and if i slam fish it rips right thru , i just pick up the rod and it sets the hook pretty much on its own , and i dont miss many fish at all , just my 2 cents, although i do miss slammin em

i know these guys set the hook hard, but over the last two years we have seen close to twenty of these rods broken, so i was just wandering if anyone else was having this problem. i miss those daiwa sea line rods, never saw a one of them get broke, i still have three for my own use and would prolly never part with them. yeah, i was looking for another good brand of rod to carry, moderately priced. we have the king cat rods and nite sticks. any info would be appreciated, thanks

Watched the Diawa sealines break like twiggs. Then they came out with the Emcast, thought it would help. NOT. The graphite rods (no matter what brand name) are too light to handle big fish. Have seen many break, not only on the hookset, but when a really big fish made a big run. Many guys still like theirs. And I have had fish all the way up to 106 lbs caught on them. But in general they will not hold up.

These rods along with St Croix, Breakaway, G-Loomis, Penn and many other companies will handle fish over 100 lb easy. It happens all the time on the east coast surf fishing. I have seen 300 lb fish caught on these rods. When these rods break it is because they twist the spline on the rods when they set the hook or they have a hairline crack in them. Graphite is very sensitive and they can not be banged around like they do for cat fishing. If you are careful with your rod they will not break. Surf rods are not meant to swing like some of these paylakers do when they set the hook. They are designed to lift straight up to set the hook. Try to loosen your drags up and you will see a difference in the performance of these rods. Most of the time when your line breaks it is because the drag in your reel sticks. The drags should be replaced every year on any reel that you use. We use several of these high end reels with our custom drags in them and never break our line or rods. I fish with a st croix reel and a Tica TC3 dolphin rod that I love and have never had trouble out of it. If I do break it then it will be my own fault. very well stated larry...... I have been trying to tell these people the same thing for a long a@@ time.... Its not the rod its the user.........
